We want the course to work for as many people as possible, and it was designed around Autistic ways of learning and sensing.

What we have built in

• No timers, no failure screens, free retries, and lessons you can pause at any card.
• Three themes (light, dark and a soft, low-contrast “calm” theme) and four text sizes.
• A reduce-motion setting, and the course respects your device’s reduced-motion preference. Animations, including Phoenix, become calm static poses.
• Sound never plays automatically. Voice features are off until you turn them on, and spoken replies always have written captions.
• Full keyboard use, visible focus, semantic headings, labelled controls, and live announcements for screen readers.
• An option to hide all game elements (XP, levels, badges, streaks).
• Content notes before heavy chapters, and a permanent Help button with worldwide crisis and text options.
• A clear, high-legibility typeface (Atkinson Hyperlegible).

Known limits

Speech recognition is not available in every browser (it works in Chrome, Edge and Safari, but not Firefox). Typing always works. We are still improving, and have not yet had the course independently audited.
